The meeting between the “CK” officials and Nyanza cricket officials in Kisumu was fruitful and powerful. The others who attended the meeting were crucial stakeholders, teachers and players from Kisumu and other parts of the province like Migori.
“CK”, briefed the young governing body from Nyanza with the relevant constitutions. Having officials from Nakuru, Martin Bentley and Shailesh Sheth also helped as they have done a compelling and momentous job in fast tracking the sport in the Rift Valley province. RVCA’s expansion of cricket in its area through its schools program was a huge success, Nyanza cricket can adopt their methodology, of taking the game to the masses through learning institutions.
The path ahead is rocky but not impossible; Nyanza Cricket Association (NCA) now has a task of identifying at least one ground, strictly for cricket as wickets get so easily chewed-up by the other sports that are played on the ground.
The other task is to get clubs involved and also get organizations to register as clubs. So far (NCA) has approached many organizations and teams to from clubs and the responses have been positive, enough indication that cricket euphoria persists. “Cricket Kenya” wants these clubs to participate competitions recognized by them.
To put some of the above plans into action, “Nyanza Cricket Association” and all the stakeholders will meet on coming Thursday.
The new league is next month and CK haven't announced the names of their teams, nor allotted them home grounds, this should have happened at-least a fortnight back so that the teams and boys gel together and plan something. Uganda has already done the needful, so their teams will have an advantage.
