Kenya’s very own IPL

The IPL has made such an impression that every country wants to have their version of the IPL.
The franchise based model is liked by most National and Local Cricket Bodies.
Sri Lanka will organise “The Sri Lanka Premier League” (SLPL) and Australia will host “The Big Bash League” (BBL), both promising to bring in world-class overseas players. However it's just not the accomplished cricket countries who are establishing these leagues. These showdowns are popping up like mushroom everywhere in the world.
The most expensive players in Bangladesh’s, National Cricket League (NCL T20) was Shoaib Akhtar the "world's fastest bowler" at US $18000 and former West Indian batting legend Brian Lara played in the Zimbabwe T20 league.. Even Cricket Canada proposes to conduct an annual summer cricket (T20) festival, scheduled from this year in late July. They will have five city based teams and will select players from International Cricketing countries.
Cricket Kenya has understood the importance and revealed a new 20 & 50-over domestic competitions aimed at improving the falling standards of cricket in the country. Apart from four sides from Kenya “two are Nairobi/central based, and one each based in Mombasa and Nakuru” the inclusion of two Ugandan sides in the six-team competition will spice it up. Players from the subcontinent are expected to play, something that used to happen in the past and helped the local Kenyan Players.
The Western Kenyan region will be represented by the side from Rift Valley, but Nyanza Province also is working very hard to have a side that represents them in the future.

  1. I am really looking forward to this tournament. Though it will not be televised on TV here in India or will be covered by Cricinfo (Although CK should atleast put resources and themselves give the live updates to Cricinfo), I surely will look into the results.
Over long term I hope this tournament becomes the Key driver for Cricket in East Africa and include more countries.
IMHO the tournament in long term should have 5 teams from Kenya, 2 from Uganda, 2 from Tanzania, 1 from Rwanda, 1 from Zambia and 1 from Malawi. This will give it a big markets besides not dropping in quality. It will be a lucrative proposition for the sponsors who through just one tournament will be able to reach so many markets

I will try to get score cards, if incase CK, does not cover the event.
    However, I feel they will.
As players from the subcontinent participate, it will keep the Indians Interested too.
The event is organized by CK. The aim is actually to bring a lot of competition among the players in both countries and mostly in Kenya. Uganda has good players capable of making Kenya achieve their goal, which is why Kenya opted to give them a chance to take part in the league. Tanzania was I’m sure discussed but did not happen. Tanzania did play a couple of games in Mombasa last year. Others are definitely not up to the mark.
Hopefully Nyanza will be able to have a team in the next two years. Their Kisumu “All Stars” side is pretty good
